Volvo Trucks Launches Geofencing Safety Zone Speed Management System

Drive Safer with Volvo’s New Speed Limitation Technology

At Nuss Truck & Equipment, your trusted Volvo Trucks dealer, we’re excited to share the latest safety innovation from Volvo Trucks: Safety Zones, a new geofencing-based speed management system that puts fleet safety and compliance in the hands of fleet managers.

Now available on select European Volvo models, this new service will roll out more widely and soon provide U.S. fleets with smarter, location-based safety features that reduce risk, liability, and stress for professional drivers.

What is Volvo Safety Zones?

Volvo’s Safety Zone system is a geofencing solution that enables fleet managers to automatically limit truck speed based on location. The truck responds in real time to predetermined geographic zones, reducing speed automatically without requiring driver input.

Key Benefits:

  • Reduced risk in high-traffic urban areas

  • Lower chance of property damage in depots and yards

  • Less driver stress with automated compliance

  • Full control through Volvo Connect, Volvo’s digital fleet portal

This technology is designed to automatically restrict acceleration and, if necessary, apply engine braking to bring the truck within the defined speed limit when entering the zone.

How It Works with Volvo Connect

Safety Zones are managed through Volvo Connect, Volvo’s all-in-one fleet management portal. Fleet managers can:

  • Create custom geographic zones using a digital map

  • Assign speed limits to each zone

  • Receive real-time alerts when trucks enter, exit, or exceed speed limits in these areas

This geofencing capability allows for precise, location-specific speed enforcement—ideal for environments like ports, warehouses, school zones, city centers, and high-density urban traffic corridors.

Available on Volvo’s Most Advanced Trucks

As of June 2025, the Safety Zone system is available on new Volvo FH, FM, FMX, and FM Low Entry models equipped with Euro 6 and electric drivetrains. A retrofit version will be available in September 2025 for existing qualifying trucks.

This innovation is part of Volvo’s ongoing commitment to Vision Zero—a future with zero accidents involving Volvo trucks.
